Application Guidance
How Your Suitability Will Be Assessed
A number of selection techniques will be used to gather information about your suitability so that a proper and thorough assessment is assured when applying for a position with Justice Health. These sources include your application, resume or curriculum vitae, interview, a criminal record check and referee reports.
Application
The information provided by you in your application is a written response to the selection criteria and is used by the selection committee to determine whether you will be called for interview. It is important that your application demonstrate how you meet the essential and desirable criteria outlined in the position description. Your application should include a summary of the major aspects of your experience and qualifications which relate to each of the essential and desirable criteria for the position.
Remember to present your application in a clear, concise and professional manner which is easy to read.

Interview
Interviews for positions advertised usually take place within two weeks of the closing date.
The most competitive applicants will be called for interview where each candidate's strengths and weaknesses in relation to the selection criteria are further measured. The purpose of the interview is to provide the applicant with an opportunity to expand on information presented in their application and to enable the panel to gather further data for the assessment process.
Applicants called for interview will usually be given at least 3 working days notice of the interview time and date. The interview panel will generally consist of three members, the convenor, a Justice Health representative and an independent member. There will be at least one male and at least one female on every panel. Collectively, the Interview Committee will have an understanding of the position and its role and will be responsible for the integrity of the final selection decision. These requirements ensure that all applicants receive the fairest possible consideration.
At the interview you will have the opportunity to ask questions or present information about the position to the Interview Committee which you feel may assist your application.
Referee Checks
Information as to your demonstrated ability or potential to fulfill the selection criteria for the position will be sought from your nominated referees. It is therefore important that you nominate at least two referees who are able to discuss your suitability in relation to the selection criteria.
Criminal Records Check
Justice Health requires that criminal record checks be undertaken for all successful applicants. Should the criminal record check be unsatisfactory, Justice Health will review discontinuing your employment. To enable this check to be carried out, it is necessary to provide your date of birth, town and country of birth and former names and aliases.
Redundancy/Retrenchment/Termination
Employees who have accepted a redundancy from NSW Public Sector employers are required to include information relating to the redundancy/retrenchment in their application.
The information will not disqualify an applicant from being selected for interview or offered the position. However, it may mean that a proportion of the severance pay covering the period of re-employment may have to be repaid.
Post selection Feedback
Post selection feedback will be available to applicants upon request. Applicants who are unsuccessful in gaining an interview, or who are unsuccessful in gaining the position after an interview, will be advised in writing.
Notification
You will be notified in writing of the outcome of you application soon after the selection process has been completed.
