Nursing
Undergraduate Nurses Program
Justice Health currently facilitates undergraduate clinical placement for students of nursing from the following Universities:
- Australian Catholic University
- Charles Sturt University
- University of Notre Dame
- University of Sydney
- University of Tasmania
- University of Technology Sydney
- University of Western Sydney
- University of Wollongong
The Undergraduate Nurses Clinical Placement Program is designed to facilitate and co-ordinate clinical placement of all undergraduate nursing students thought out Justice Health. The students have the opportunity to experience a unique environment where they will observe/participate in the complexities of working within a multidisciplinary team within a correctional environment. This exposure assists the student to develop an understanding of the role of mental health services in relation to the Criminal Justice System.
The program has been developed in consultation with tertiary sector to achieve their mandatory pre-registration requirements. To ensure the students achieve their objectives a range of clinical experiences that enhance their educational understanding of providing mental health care in the correctional environment.
The program includes a one day orientation which highlights confidentiality, professional boundaries, and safety and security expectations whilst undertaking a placement with in Justice Health facilities. Attendance at Justice Health facilities is usually coordinated through Universities with whom we have an established affiliation.
