Our Services - Allied & Oral Health
Allied Health Services
Allied Health services include: Pharmacy, Diagnostic Imaging Services, Medical Records Service, Physiotherapy and Optometry.
The Justice Health Pharmacy services wards and clinics in correctional centres (except Junee), Juvenile Justice centres and police cells. Pharmacy aims to provide a clinical based service facilitating the most effective, safe and economical use of drug therapy with the aim of optimising patient care in Justice Health. Pharmacists are employed at the Long Bay and Silverwater complexes and are responsible for dispensing self-medication to eligible inmates (at those complexes) and providing support services for health professionals. Medications for inmates on discharge, leave or for dose administration aids are also provided by pharmacists at the Long Bay Correctional Complex.
Justice Health provides an in house Diagnostic Imaging service in the Metropolitan area of Sydney and selected regional locations to inmates of the NSW correctional system. General Diagnostic Imaging Service including orthopantomogram's are available at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre at Silverwater, Long Bay Hospital 2, Parklea and the Mid North Cost Correctional Centre. Mobile Ultrasound services are available in Long Bay and future expansion into the Metropolitan Area are planned. Films from these centres are sent to the Prince of Wales Diagnostic Imaging Department for viewing and reporting. An x-ray unit at Goulburn Correctional Centre is operated in conjunction with Goulburn Base Hospital. Inmates not accommodated at any of these correctional centres are escorted to local diagnostic imaging facilities under a local arrangement.
The Physiotherapy Service for Justice Health is located at the Outpatients Department (Long Bay Hospital Area 2) on the Long Bay Correctional Complex and provides treatment for a broad based caseload of both acute and chronic patients. Physiotherapy is also a part of the Orthopaedic and Pain Management Clinics, which are offered on the Long Bay Complex, and liaises with Physiotherapy Departments and other relevant clinics at Public Hospitals to provide those services Justice Health is unable to offer on site. There are no onsite physiotherapy services provided at other correctional centres. Inmates in remote centres may be referred for physiotherapy treatment at a local hospital rather than be transferred to Long Bay. Services for female inmates are arranged through Westmead, Nepean or Auburn Hospitals. Orthotic services are provided through a service agreement with the Orthotics Department at Prince of Wales.

In addition to the management of medical records the service also manages case management and psychology files for the Department of Corrective Services.
