Our Services - Womens Health
The Women's Health Directorate within Justice Health incorporates the activities of all Justice Health clinical programs, including Primary Health, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol and Population/Public Health. Gender specific programs are also provided which relate directly to women's health issues, including cervical and breast screening, sexual and reproductive health.
The majority of women are accommodated at Mulawa (150), Emu Plains (200) and Berrima (75) Correctional Centres and two newly completed and commissioned centres at Dillwynia (200) and Mid-North Coast (50). Mulawa Correctional Centre is the reception centre for women entering the criminal justice system. Women are also accommodated in predominately male correctional centres with up to 19 women accommodated in the June Baker Unit at Grafton Correctional Centre and up to 10 women at Broken Hill Correctional Centre. Women who are eligible for pre-release community programs may reside in Transitional Centres located at Parramatta and Emu Plains. Occasionally women are interspersed throughout the system residing in male correctional centres for varying lengths of time. Additional accommodation for women will also become available at Wellington and will provide an additional 50 female beds.
