You may have a lot of questions if you are the family or carer of a person experiencing a mental illness who is in the criminal justice or forensic mental health system. These questions could include the type of care being provided, how you can visit or get involved in their recovery.

You can speak with a Justice Health NSW staff member: 

  • By calling the 24 Hours Mental Health Helpline.

  • If the person you care for is in the Forensic Hospital, you can contact the main switch on 02 9700 3000 and request to speak to:
    • The Nursing Unit Manager of the Unit that the person you care for is accommodated within.
    • The Social Worker of the Unit that the person you care for is accommodated within.
    • Any of the Aboriginal Mental Health Care Workers.
    • The Family and Carer Consultant, who can provide you information, connect you with a person’s mental health treating team and refer you to support in the community.
    • The Network Client Liaison team.
  • If the person you care for is a young person or adult in custody or an adult in Long Bay Hospital, you can contact the main switch on 02 9700 3000 and request to speak to:
    • The Network Client Liaison team
    • The Family and Carer Consultant, who can provide you information, connect you with a person’s mental health treating team and refer you to support in the community.
